Doctoral  Seminar

In 2020 SNyMS collaborated for the first time with the Center for Migration Law (Universities of Bern, Neuchâtel and Fribourg) in the organization of its Doctoral Seminar.  This year, we are excited to announce that the 12th edition of the doctoral seminar will take place on the 11th and 12th of December @ Centre Löwenberg in Morat/Murten

About the Doctoral Seminar's 12th edition
11th and 12th of December 2025 @ Centre Löwenberg (Morat/Murten).

Objective

This seminar offers a unique platform for PhD students working on themes related to migration law and policy. This two-day seminar allows its participants to present their research, exchange with other researchers and enrich their reflections.

Content

Previous editions of this doctoral seminar have demonstrated the richness and diversity of current research on migration, while emphasizing the crucial importance of the interdisciplinary approach in this field. This year again, we invite PhD students from all disciplines (law, sociology, political science, geography, anthropology, philosophy, economics, among others) to submit their proposals. Regardless of the stage of their thesis, participants are free to propose a concise presentation of their research topic, an in-depth analysis of a specific chapter or article, or a methodological reflection. This seminar is intended to be inclusive and open, without thematic or methodological restrictions. We warmly encourage all interested persons to prepare a discussion note of one page maximum, to share in advance with the other participants.

Format

Contributions will take the form of a 20-minute presentation in a plenary session, followed by discussions with an expert and the participants.

External experts

Following the format established in the previous editions, we will benefit from the expertise of invited guests from practice and academia in the field of migration. Their presence will enrich the discussions, provide complementary perspectives and help to broaden the networks of doctoral students.

Bilingualism

The seminar will be held in French and German. Presentations in English are also accepted, but at least a passive understanding of French and German is strongly recommended.

Submission of proposals

Please send an abstract of 300 words maximum (for a presentation or a workshop) to giulia.raimondo@unifr.ch before June 1, 2025.

The members of the organizing committee are available for any further information about the organization and running of the seminar.

It is also possible to participate in the seminar without making a presentation. All interested persons are invited to express their interest to us at the same address. Registration will be possible from June 15, 2025.
